Scholarship
Guidelines for Scholarship Funds
Purpose
This scholarship provides funds for higher education to
students who have been accepted at Hampden-Sydney College or
the University of Virginia. It is the intent of this scholarship to
recognize graduates who, though not necessarily identified as academic or
athletic leaders in their senior classes, still possess the skills to be
academically successful in college. It
is also the intent that this scholarship will be awarded to a diverse group of
high school graduates, including those from the following counties in Georgia: Hall, Banks, Barrow, Clarke, Franklin,
Gwinnett Habersham, Jackson, Oconee, Rabun,
Stephens, Walton, Fulton, Dekalb,
Newton. The scholarship also includes high school
graduates applying through the Lyford Cay Foundation, Inc., Nassau, Bahamas
as a matching opportunity. In so
doing, this scholarship will provide financial support for students who might
not otherwise have an opportunity to attend Hampden-Sydney College or the University of Virginia.
Scholarship
- Will provide
$4100 annually for college expenses including tuition, books and fees to be
awarded to high school graduates residing in the following counties of Georgia:
Hall, Banks, Barrow, Clarke, Franklin,
Gwinnett, Habersham, Jackson, Oconee,
Rabun, Stephens, Walton, Fulton, Dekalb, Newton.
- Will match
the Lyford Cay Foundation’s scholarship of $7500 for college expenses including tuition, books and fees for Bahamian
students attending Hampden-Sydney
College or The University
of Virginia.
- Will
be renewable for up to four years of documented college coursework (must
maintain a 2.0 college GPA)
Criteria
- Students
must apply in their senior year of high school.
- Students
must receive a College Preparatory diploma at graduation.
- Students
must provide a letter of acceptance to Hampden-Sydney College
or The University of Virginia prior to receiving the scholarship.
- Special
consideration should be given to financial need.
- Athletic
and/or demonstrated leadership not required.
- Students
must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA at high school graduation to be eligible.
